Brainstorming

I like to be able to think outside of the box at times and this was one design assignment that had little parameters so I immediately jumped to do something unique. My focus was to do something that required me to get away from the computer and work with my hands and with nature.

Supplies and Fonts

After researching ideas I quickly settled on handmade letters of different mediums bound with adhesive.
I printed out many different letters of different fonts and sought out light reactive stones and shells.
As I started molding I realized how much space and time each letter required, so I had to figure out a time frame as well as how to bring these letters to 3D with the limited space I had.

Execution

After creating many letters of different materials,

I went to nature to photograph them. I went to parks and my backyard at different times of the day to experiment with space and light effects.

04

Time

I had to play the percentage game with this that I photograph 300 letters and maybe get a low percentage of good ones. The ones that worked were better than I ever thought they could be. For the letters of ARCADIA I hung them on my Christmas tree and used the illumination from the lights to create a glowing effect.

Finish

This font turned out better than I envisioned.
Arcadia means a blending of nature and a source of simple pleasure and quiet. I like that these items can be placed nearly anywhere in nature and can either blend in or add to the natural elements.
